Agriculture Republicans Outline Opposition to Partisan Budget Reconciliation Effort

Republican Leader of the House Committee on Agriculture, and fellow Committee Republicans, outlined their opposition to the Majority's budget reconciliation recommendations. In addition to a myriad of flawed policies, the measure was drafted behind closed doors without any Republican input. "This partisan approach is particularly galling in the context of the Agriculture Committee, which has long prided itself on being the most bipartisan Committee in the House," the submission states.
Despite offers to work together on commonsense measures, Democrats voted lockstep to foil critical support efforts proposed by Republicans, even after publicly admitting to their merit, going as far as to call these efforts "poison pills."
Democrats' partisan opposition to commonsense relief includes, but is not limited to:
· Refusing to redirect a portion of the funds to support critical needs of rural communities, such as broadband infrastructure;
· Failing to unfreeze Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) funds, and;
· Rejecting an amendment to help rural residents see doctors and teachers safely throughout the pandemic with investments in the Distance Learning and Telemedicine program.
