Tue, 23 Mar 2021 08:41:15 CDT

State agriculture officials celebrate National Ag Day, recognize contribution of essential workers through Today on National Ag Day, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture celebrates the many contributions agriculture makes to our nation's security and prosperity. Over the past year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed many individuals combat an array of obstacles to provide every household with food and fiber.

NASDA CEO Dr. Barb Glenn recognized the role of state departments of agriculture in supporting our national food system and the resilience shown by essential workers in agriculture and food industry.

"NASDA members advance the more than two million farms across the country and support all those who produce and secure our food supply. Today's "Feeding The Economy," report allows us to see clearly the work of these individuals, understand how we can work together to overcome the pandemic and promote agriculture's monumental contribution to our national economy."

This National Ag Week, NASDA will highlight agriculture's impact on each state's economy and NASDA members' efforts to ensure everyone is #TogetherAtTheTable to overcome COVID-19 challenges.

NASDA members also recognized the importance of essential workers during the NASDA Winter Policy Conference last month by adopting new policies aimed at improving essential worker safety, promoting vaccinations for essential workers and investing in local and regional food. NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. NASDA grows and enhances American agriculture through policy, partnerships and public engagement.
