Oklahoma Cattle Producers Talk Cows During Beef Day at The CapitolTue, 04 May 2021 17:34:23 CDT
During Beef Day at the Capitol activities Tuesday Mike Weeks, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association President joined his fellow cattle producers to explain the industry to lawmakers.
Weeks was later interviewed by Radio Oklahoma Agriculture Network Associate Farm Director and Editor KC Sheperd.
We really enjoy coming here and meeting with legislators and their staff, Weeks said.
We want to show these legislators who we are and what we do, Weeks said.
Animal agriculture has come under fire in other states and as we move forward, advocacy for the beef industry falls on the industry and I think the legislators appreciate that, he said.
Cattle producers offered legislators a beef meal along with information about the beef industry.
Telling the beef story is an important aspect of the event.
We care about the land and animals, Weeks said.
The Oklahoma rancher said consumers are expressing more interest in where their meat comes from today.
As producers we are happy to tell our story and we love to talk about cows, Weeks said.
Weeks encourages consumers to locate a beef producer and ask questions.
One area that Weeks and the OCA is especially proud to talk about is their new venture, Prairie Beef Solutions.
We’re making great strides and soon consumers will know where to purchase ground beef from a certified Oklahoma cattle, Weeks said.
He added this will allow consumers to be confident they can purchase a safe, nutritious beef product grown right here by their neighbors.
The OCA president said his group is also working on upcoming state and national meetings.
