The Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen's Association (OJCA) invites junior cattlemen from across the state to attend the 36th Annual Summer Preview Show, June 3 - 5 at the Payne County Fairgrounds in Stillwater, Okla.
"This event is so much more than a steer and heifer livestock show" said Tiffani Pruitt, OJCA Coordinator. "There are many other opportunities for young cattlemen to learn, grow, connect with fellow junior cattlemen. Ultimately, my goal is to equip students with tools, experiences and skills that they can use to build a successful education and career."
In addition to a steer and heifer show, the three-day, family event features competitions in public speaking, salesmanship, showmanship, livestock judging, quiz bowl and a special event known as 'cow camp'. Additionally, a fun evening of barnyard Olympics is sure to be a hit.
New this year, the Oklahoma Beef Council will be hosting "Cattle Kids Care" certification. Additionally, the OJCA Board wanted to incorporate a service project into the event involving the OK Kids Korral - Toby Keith Foundation. Attendees can bring items from the wish list at https://www.tobykeithfoundation.org/application/files/9715/9714/4478/2018_most_wanted_pdf.pdf
or contribute money to be spent on items from the wish list.
According to OJCA President, Jace James, "These events allow young cattlemen, like myself, to cultivate leadership skills, grow personally, challenge ourselves while spending time with fellow junior cattlemen from around the state. This show is unique because it is coordinated and carried out by junior cattlemen for junior cattlemen and really gives the members of the OJCA Board of Directors an opportunity to step up and help their fellow showmen and friends."
All events are open to Oklahoma students only. OJCA membership is required to participate, but may be paid on-site, at time of contest entry. Public speaking and Salesmanship contest participants must pre-register by June 1. There will be no pre-entries or registration for the other events and contests. Rules, hotel room blocks and additional information is available at okcattlemen.org/ojca-summer-preview-show-menu.
The OJCA was started in 1985 to further the education and cooperation of young people interested in cattle, and to aid in the attainment of mutual goals set by OJCA members interested in all phases of their business and possible career and leadership opportunities.
