Chairwoman Stabenow Highlights New USDA Resources for Producers
Wed, 16 Jun 2021 07:45:36 CDT
U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow of Michigan welcomed the announcement Tuesday of billions of dollars in additional resources for farmers and other agricultural businesses authorized by Congress and provided as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative.
"The support announced today by USDA is essential to strengthening our food and farm supply chain, and making sure producers left out of previous COVID-19 aid get the help they need," said Chairwoman Stabenow. "In particular, I'm thrilled to see the additional worker protection measures on farms and in food processing facilities. That's something that I pushed for in the American Rescue Plan, because it's a critical part of keeping our workers safe and our shelves stocked."
"I'm also happy to see the assistance available for dairy farmers, livestock producers and contract poultry growers, biofuels producers and small, family-owned timber operations," Chairwoman Stabenow added. "Finally, the added resources for organic cost share will go a long way toward supporting organic certification and transition to organic in Michigan and nationwide."
