Soil Health Field Day Coming up Aug. 3 at Loyal, Okla.RSVP Now

Oklahoma Conservation Commission, Oklahoma Farmers Union/American Farmers and Ranchers, Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts, USDA Southern Plains Climate Hub, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to partner on soil health field day August 3, 2021.
As part of their ongoing commitment to help production agriculture in Oklahoma and the Southern Plains region of the United States, the Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC), the Oklahoma Farmers Union/American Farmers and Ranchers (OFU/AFR), the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD), USDA Southern Plains Climate Hub (Hub) and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be hosting a soil health field day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 3, 2021 at Loyal, Okla. According to OCC Soil Health Coordinator Amy Seiger, this event will be a great chance for agriculture producers from throughout the region to gain additional knowledge about the benefits they can realize on their operations from improving soil health
.
"We are very excited to host this event to help showcase different strategies that agriculture producers can do to improve their bottom lines and better prepare for extreme weather events by improving the health of their soil," Seiger said. "We love to have the chance to go out in the field and talk to farmers and ranchers about how soil health can work for them."
Subjects to be covered at the event include the economics of soil health, a producer perspective on following winter wheat with cover crops, discussions on cover crop grazing, an overview of the OCC Working On Regenerative Management Systems (W.O.R.M.S) program and a general overview of soil health basics followed by an in-field cover crop tour and rainfall simulator demonstration.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by July 26 or by contacting one of the two individuals listed below. There is no charge for the meeting and Lunch will be provided by OFU/AFR.
