American National Cattle Women: The Cattle Industry’s Boots on the Ground

When it comes to promoting beef in the U.S., American National Cattle Women are not only thinking about the future, but also outside the box.

ANCW president, Evelyn Greene spoke with Ron Hays of Radio Oklahoma Ag Network at the 2021 Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association Conference about what it takes to truly support National Beef Cattle producers.

"We are boots on the ground for the cattlemen," Greene said. "We want to be that positive note for the beef industry with everyone we come into contact with."

Some of the ways ANCW members focus on beef promotion, education and legislation is through a collegiate beef advocacy group, a Women in Ranching, Education and
Development program and a story-reading program for K-12 students.

"We have books virtually read, which are available online for teachers," Greene said. "As we all know, COVID had that impact of having everything virtual."

Greene said COVID-19 further proved that many people are connecting to the world via social media and ANCW leadership is not missing out on the opportunities these platforms provide to reach consumers.

"We need to let consumers know that our beef has not changed it is still very nutritious," Greene said. "You have to learn how to develop around some of the theories out there while sticking to your passion."

For ANCW, the passion is beef. Greene said if the beef industry fails to get on board with younger generations' communication styles the generations who will eventually be running their own farms and ranches the industry will fall behind the eight-ball.

"If you aren't utilizing tech and social media, then you don't have contact with the world right now," Greene said. "Everybody has cell phone or a laptop and if you aren't in front of them then you are definitely falling behind.

ANCW really stepped up to the plate to provide a strong presence on social media, according to Greene.

The ANCW will be present at the upcoming National Cattlemen's Beef Association' CattleCon21.
