Easy Four Ingredient Ice Cream Recipe Wins People Choice Award at 2021 State Fair of Oklahoma DairyMAX Ice Cream Contest

Mon, 20 Sep 2021 12:51:42 CDT

Easy Four Ingredient Ice Cream Recipe Wins People Choice Award at 2021 State Fair of Oklahoma DairyMAX Ice Cream Contest One of the fun jobs a person can have- even if it's just once a year on a Sunday Afternoon is to be a State Fair Homemade Ice Cream Contest judge. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays has had the opportunity to do that for more than a decade at the State Fair of Oklahoma's DairyMAX Cow to Cone Ice Cream Contest. Also on the judge's stand at the 2021 contest with Ron was Amanda Ford, Registered Dietician and the Program Coordinator for Health and Wellness and School Marketing for DairyMAX.

After they had gotten their sugar rush and had tasted and analyized the entries in three categories- Hays talked with Ford about the contest and her work on behalf of dairy farmers in Oklahoma. She told him "I love homemade ice cream- it's a great summer treat on hot days like today." She and the other judges selected the top entries- and then the general public was allowed to sample the work of the contestants- and select the People's Choice winner- which has always been considered the Champion of the annual show.

The first place Mixed Ice Cream Entry- as picked by the judges also was judged to be the Peoples Choice Grand Champion of the Contest. Congrats to Mucio Davilla of OKC who entered for the first time in the contest- and his Caramel Toffee Ice Cream was the Grand Winner. Davila is a leader in his local 4-H club- and brought to the contest the simplest recipe of all the entries- and it turned out to be the best.- we have details of the winning recipe below.

Also congrats to the Vanilla Class winner Jessica Grigsby of Jones- her winning recipe was "Simply Delicious Vanilla Ice Cream." And the winner in the Fruit Class was Holly Cole of Norman for her delicious "Spanish Style Cherry Ice Cream." (The picture shows Grisby, Cole, Davila and Hays)

Besides the contest- Ford also described her work on behalf of dairy farmers.as she interacts with health professionals- other dieticians, doctors, nurses and more "making sure that they understand how hard working dairy farmers are that they are out producing a nutrious product that is affordable- twenty five cents a glass" which is a product that "they should be recommending to their clients and can be a part of a safe and healthy and sustainable diet."
