Micaela Danker with ODAFF is Your Guide for Fall Fun This Year
Mon, 11 Oct 2021 16:42:10 CDT
Fall is a great season to be outdoors with friends and family in Oklahoma, especially after those hot summer months. Oklahoma offers so much to do this time of year, from watching the leaves change on the Talimena National Scenic Byway, to pumpkin picking and even alpaca petting!
This year, KC Sheperd, associate director for Radio Oklahoma Ag Network, sat down with Micaela Danker, agritourism coordinator for the Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry, about all the activities available to you, right now.
"This is the best time of the year to get out to our Oklahoma pumpkin patches and mazes," Danker said.
She said most of these venues offer additional activities, such as petting zoos and grabbing a bite to eat.
A favorite location of RON staff is Parkhurst Ranch in Arcadia, Okla. The ranch offers a pumpkin patch and more, so check out their website.
In all, Danker said Oklahoma is home to nearly 40 pumpkin patches and mazes, scattered across the state. ODAFF just launched a new Oklahoma Agritourism Fall Guide, which is available for order or download here for free!
"It is a guide to Oklahoma fall agritourism for this year," Danker said.
Danker said many Oklahomans, who are at least 21 years old, will be excited to hear about the newly launched Oklahoma Craft Beer Trail.
"We have 60 breweries to go try around the state," Danker said. "Now, is a great time to do that!"
Oklahoma also has a handful of wineries that make up 10 different wine trails to try. While talking with Sheperd, Danker announced that ODAFF is launching the Oklahoma Wine Trails smartphone app.
"The coolest thing about the app is that as the consumer downloads the app, you are automatically taken to a palette quiz," Danker said. "You answer questions about your taste preferences and at the end, it matches you to your top 10 Oklahoma wines, based on your taste preferences."
The app is expected to bring more foot traffic to Oklahoma wineries and is expected to launch in the next month.
