TCFA Chairman Scott Anderson of the Oklahoma Panhandle Excited that Negotiated Cash Cattle Trade is on the Rise
Mon, 25 Oct 2021 15:17:25 CDT
Cattle Feeders from Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico have gathered at the new Omni in Downtown Oklahoma City this week for the 2021 Txas Cattle Feeders Association Convention. While the TCFA normally holds their annual meetings in Texas- they do travel across the Red River from time to time to meet in Oklahoma, especially when they have a volunteer leader serving as Chairman of the group from Oklahoma.
That is the case here in 2021 as Scott Anderson of CRI Feeders in Guymon is their Chairman. Anderson has a privately-owned cattle feeding operation of about 40,000 head. He has been there since the last 1960s and has developed a customer base from all across the U.S., he said.
Every day is a new day in the industry and within his operation, Anderson said. The current state and progression of the world market coupled with new technology has helped mature the operation, he added.
He says sthat it has been a real honor to serve as Chairman of the group- he talked with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays between sessions of the meeting on Monday- and said the feedlot part of the Beef Cattle Indudstry is very much focused on increasing the number of negotiated cash trades of slaughter cattle, saying that "nobody wants the government in our business" adding that the beef industry needs a price discovery process that helps set the base for our cattle being marketed via cash or forward contracts.
Anderson also presided over the latter part of the morning genreal session when TCFA honored their outgoing Presidnet and CEO, Ros Wilson. Wilson has been a part of the TCFA team for 37 years and has served as the CEO of the group since 2006. Anderson told Hays "can not say enought about the effort abd support that Ross has provided to TCFA members in our region- but also what he has done for the beef indusrty as a whole. His influence has extended well beyond the TCFA."
