Dr. Coon Honored with Distinguished Service to OKFB Award

Wed, 10 Nov 2021 17:20:01 CST

Dr. Coon Honored with Distinguished Service to OKFB Award Dr. Thomas Coon, vice president, dean and director of the Oklahoma State University Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, was recognized with the Distinguished Service to Oklahoma Farm Bureau Award on Friday, Nov. 5 during the organization's 80th annual meeting in Norman.

The award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to agriculture and the Farm Bureau organization.

Coon earned the award for his dedication to students, farmers and ranchers in Oklahoma through agricultural education, research and extension.

"The OSU Ferguson College of Agriculture has seen many exciting changes within the past few years, and Dr. Coon has the future of agriculture including farmers and ranchers at the forefront of the New Frontiers movement," said Rodd Moesel, OKFB president. "Oklahoma agriculture has benefitted greatly from Dr. Coon's vision, leadership and commitment to our industry and our rural way of life."

Coon works closely with farmers and ranchers in Extension through various programs.

"I am so honored and surprised," Coon said. "This is an organization I feel so strongly about because Farm Bureau, like Extension, has people in every county. It means a lot to me to have that kind of support."

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau annual meeting is the organization's largest gathering of farmers and ranchers every year. At the event, members vote on grassroots policy, elect leaders and award outstanding individuals. OKFB has a presence in all 77 Oklahoma counties and serves as the voice of agriculture and the rural way of life. To learn more, visit www.okfarmbureau.org.
