GivingTuesday: A Global Phenomenon Unleashing the Power of Radical Generosity

Mon, 29 Nov 2021 18:23:50 CST

GivingTuesday: A Global Phenomenon Unleashing the Power of Radical Generosity In 2012, a simple idea took hold: to create a day dedicated to encouraging people to do good. Less than 10 years later, GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. You guessed it! Tomorrow is GivingTuesday and in rural Oklahoma, there are so many ways to give.

There are many ways to participate in GivingTuesday, here are a few according to GivingTuesday.org:

· Share kindness with your neighbors.
· Volunteer virtually or share your talents
· Give your voice to a cause that matters to you
· Show gratitude to healthcare workers, service providers, and other essential workers who are making sure we still have the services we rely on, even at risk to their own health
· Discover a local fundraiser, community drive or coordinated event to join others in your area or with your same interests in giving back - they need your help
· Give to your favorite cause or a fundraiser to help those in need
· Talk about giving and generosity using the hashtag #GivingTuesday

You can check out more ways to give by visiting the GivingTuesday ideas page here.

Ron Hays, KC Sheperd and the rest of the staff at Radio Oklahoma Ag Network want to shine a light on a handful of local and national organizations that are making a difference in rural Oklahoma and rural America.

Animal Agriculture Alliance: Safeguarding the future of animal agriculture and its value to society by bridging the communication gap between the farm and food communities.

Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program: Assisting potential leaders to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of people. This includes personal and group study and interaction, improving skills in communications, and developing a commitment to future leadership roles in Oklahoma agriculture.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau: You can help Oklahoma Farm Bureau grow its efforts to support the agriculture community to improve the lives of Oklahomans by donating to its foundations and its political action committee.

Oklahoma 4-H Foundation: The Oklahoma 4-H Foundation supports high-quality, fun and educational 4-H programming to Oklahoma youth. When you support the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation, you support opportunities for Oklahoma's next generation of leaders.

The Foundation also strives to assist the general public of Oklahoma in understanding the vital and necessary role played by the agriculture, food and forestry industries in the state.

OYE Onward Campaign: In an act of selfless generosity and inspired philanthropy, Bob Funk as announced a $5 million testamentary challenge match for all gifts to OYE ONWARD. This challenge illustrates the enduring generosity of Mr. Funk to OYE, as well as inspiring other families, organizations and friends to step up to create their own philanthropic legacies benefiting tomorrow's leaders built through OYE Every gift doubled, up to $5 million.

Protect the Harvest: Every day the team at Protect the Harvest works hard to protect and support our heritage and traditions by fighting back against the ideology of animal rights extremists and other groups. Protect the Harvest educates and informs producers about threats to our way of life including agriculture, farming, ranching, land use, and animal ownership.
