Stop By the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Booth at the Tulsa Farm Show
Thu, 09 Dec 2021 11:49:39 CST
It is the opening day of the Tulsa Farm Show! In the middle of 400,000 square feet of exhibits sit the folks with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. This year, OKFB is the premier sponsor of the TFS. At the show today, Radio Oklahoma's own KC Sheperd visited with Gage Milliman, northeast field representative for OKFB.
"The (TFS) is something we have always taken part in," Milliman said. "It is an opportunity for our members to come by and visit with us. You know how farmers and ranchers are; they do not always run into town and when they do, they get in and out really quick."
OKFB staff members on the federation and the insurance side will be at the booth the duration of the show, Milliman said.
"We have refreshments for our members if they want to come by and get something cool to drink and have a place to sit down," Milliman said.
Milliman said sometimes he is surprised by what OKFB members tell him at events like these.
"It is always interesting," Milliman said. "These guys will come by pretty passionate about an issue."
Right now, the biggest issues Milliman said he hears from Oklahoma producers are surrounding property rights amid Oklahoma's booming medical marijuana industry.
"When it comes to property rights, we want to make sure growers have the right to do what they want to do," Milliman said. "We also want to make sure the farmers next to (the marijuana farms) who want to spray crops and fertilize pastures are able to continue to do those normal farming practices that we have been doing for years.
