Jarold Callahan with Cattlemen's Congress Proud That This Show is a Cattle Show for Cattle People
Thu, 06 Jan 2022 21:01:54 CST
The President of Express Ranches, Jarold Callahan, was a driving force a little over a year ago when the announcement was made in Denver that the National Western Stock Show would not happen in January of 2021. In a matter of a little over 60 days- Callahan and other cattle industry leaders worked with the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds management, City of Oklahoma City and State of Oklahoma leaders and Tyler Norvell and his staff at the Oklahoma Youth Expo to get the first ever Cattlemen's Congress off the ground and deliver a world class purebred cattle show.
Callahan tells us that the word that the Congress leadership team heard was those that came and showed cattle was "Do it again." Callahan says "Fast forward to this year. The turnout has been awesome. The shows and sales that have happened have been thus far supurb."
Callahan took a few minutes out of his busy schedule on Thursday morning and did a Facetime Live Video with Oklahoma Farm Report's Ron Hays.
One of the sales that has already happened at the second Cattlemen's Congress was the Bases Loaded Angus Sale on Tuesday evening. Callahan told Hays "It did a million, 550 thousand dollars." He adds " that income stream is important to those producers who consign to that sale" and these benefits are being replicated in the twenty cattle sales scheduled during Cattlemen's Congress and that's not the only buying and selling that is going on. A lot of private treaty deals will be completed by the time the 2022 Cattlemen's Congress is complete.
Callahan says that his overriding goal for Cattlemen's Congress- "we wanted a cattle show for cattle people." Based on the response of the North American Purebred cattle men and women who have or will be coming to Cattlemen's Congress- that concept is resonating very well.
