National Wheat Yield Contest Opens for 2022 Contest Entries

Fri, 07 Jan 2022 11:54:52 CST

National Wheat Yield Contest Opens for 2022 Contest Entries The National Wheat Foundation (NWF) is pleased to announce that it is accepting grower enrollment for the 2022 National Wheat Yield Contest! The contest is divided into two primary competition categories: winter wheat and spring wheat, and two subcategories: dryland and irrigated.
The 2022 National Wheat Yield Contest will add a new quality component. The 24 yield winners’ wheat will be tested for baking and milling qualities and if it meets all the criteria for “industry-desired” quality, the farmer will receive an additional $500 cash award in addition to the trip to Commodity Classic. Every contestant should save a 6 lb. sample of their wheat at harvest. The winners will all be required to send in their sample, which will be tested for baking and milling qualities. Another change for the contest is that contestants are asked to get their wheat graded at a local elevator and upload proof that it is Grade 1 or 2 to their harvest record on the website. Participants will not be required to ship in a grain sample, just retain their sample in case they are a national winner.
Winter Wheat entries are due May 16 and Spring Wheat entries are due August 1. There is a discount for early entries; by April 15 (winter wheat) or June 15 (spring wheat). Early entries are encouraged as they help our sponsors who pay for the entries with vouchers and our contest administrators.
To learn more about the contest and enter go online at yieldcontest.wheatfoundation.org.

Sponsors for the contest are a diverse group from all segments of the wheat value chain. WestBred, U.S. Wheat Associates, BASF, John Deere, Ardent Mills, AgriMaxx, Elevate Ag, GrainSense, Grain Craft, Mennel Milling, Ohio Corn&Wheat, Croplan, GrowPro Genetics, North Dakota Mill and Elevator, Northern Crops Institute, Miller Milling, DynaGro, Lima Grain, and CoAxium have committed to sponsorship of the 2022 contest. We thank our sponsors for their support and know the contest would not be possible without them. If companies have questions or interest, they should contact Anne Osborne at aosborne@wheatworld.org
