Much Cooler Temps Provide Opportunity to Control Fires Throughout the State

Mon, 07 Mar 2022 09:09:49 CST

Much Cooler Temps Provide Opportunity to Control Fires Throughout the State Statewide Discussion:
New wildfire activity increased in Oklahoma yesterday with heavy initial attack activity in central and northern Oklahoma. Conditions moderate today as a cold front continues to move across Oklahoma coupled with precipitation chances across most of the state. Best opportunity for wetting precipitation resides east and southeast while little significant improvement to composite fuel moisture is expected west and central.

Today:
Much cooler temperatures, overall, than yesterday coupled with elevated relative humidity values and lighter wind speeds will provide a very good opportunity to contain and control fires from yesterday and those stubborn fires from days previous. Near-Term: Temperatures holding below normal next week will limit the strength of drying following precipitation chances today. Current forecasts point to some elevated fire danger indices late next week although not nearly as potent as recent fire danger concerns.
