Thu, 17 Mar 2022 14:47:36 CDT
This week on SUNUP OSU Crop marketing specialist Dr. Kim Anderson talks about Agriculture in Ukraine. Anderson says if you were to look at Ukraine as a country, you could take Kansas, South Dakota, and North Dakota and put them together and have the same size of Ukraine's 233,000 square miles or 148 million acres.
Anderson said Ukraine does lead the way in some export markets, "If you look at wheat, 18.3 of that million acres goes to wheat production, About a billion bushels a year, five-year average. Corn 12.5 million acres of corn, that's 1.3 billion bushels a year. Barley, 6.6 million acres, 400 million bushels, and then they're also big in Sugar beets. They produced 9.2 million metric tons of sugar beets and sunflower. They're the number one exporter of sunflower oil. They produce 4.4 million metric tons of sunflowers."
