Papa J's BBQ Serving Up BBQ with an Attitude at Ag Day

Ag Day at the capital took place last week which is always an excellent opportunity to get a great look at the many aspects of agriculture in our state, including Papa J's BBQ out of Edmond, Oklahoma, "BBQ with an Attitude." Farm Director KC sheperd was on hand to sample the BBQ and speak with Jerel Jalbert, the creator of Papa J's, and he said the attitude portion comes from him, "I do. It's actually in the sauce. We are a whiskey BBQ sauce, and we have three varieties, Orginal, spicy, and smoking hot. We also have a brand new product, our dry rub."
Jalbert said his BBQ started as a hobby as he used to make his sauce to give away, but in 2014 his kids pushed him to start selling his delicious sauce. Jalbert has been making his special sauce for 39 years, "It took me 30 years to get the right whiskey!"
Jalbert has been coming to Ag Day since 2015. He says it's an excellent way to get exposure and visit with legislators, "You get to talk to your representatives and meet them all, and there's a lot of different things you get to do with people."
