Southern Plains Podcast With Sean Babington, Senior Advisor for Climate to the Secretary of Agriculture

In this episode of Southern Plains Podcast, Clay Pope visits with Sean Babington, the Senior Advisor for Climate to the Secretary of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. Sean Talks with about his work for Secretary Vilsack and about the strategy USDA is undertaking to help farmers and ranchers deal with the challenges they are facing from climate change. Sean says it's a it's a wonderful job working for a wonderful secretary. He says one of the goals is to tackle climate change, "To both think about how we adapt and become more resilient, but also pursue steps that can mitigate problems. And the Secretary created this job to try and help him coordinate across the USDA, multiple mission areas, all of which really has an important role to play here."
He says he says he tries to divide his time to help where needed, "I'll spend some of my morning with the folks over at the farm production and conservation mission area talking about the brand spanking new partnerships for climate smart commodities program. Then I'll spend some time in the afternoon with the Forest Service in and talking through the data plus up with money that they got in the bipartisan infrastructure law, which included a whole bunch of money to plant trees in our national forests and help reduce wildfire risk."
