Celebrate the Start of Summer Grilling with Beef
Thu, 05 May 2022 11:52:12 CDT
Memorial Day and National Beef Burger Day , celebrated on May 28th, officially kick off the summer grilling season! And when it comes to grilling, beef is top of mind as shoppers say beef is frequently their top grilling season protein!
In fact, according to a 2021 consumer survey funded by the Beef Checkoff, consumers are likely grilling twice a week or more, and average grilling increased between 2020 and 2021, with average Americans grilling 9.55 times per month. A whopping 85% of consumers said they would grill the same amount or more in 2021 compared to 2020. 2022 is likely to follow this same trajectory, and we need to ensure beef remains the top grilling season protein of choice!

INGREDIENTS:
1 pound Ground Beef (96% lean)
1/4 cup beer
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
4 slices reduced-fat Cheddar cheese
4 extra-thick slices Maplewood-smoked bacon, cut in half, cooked crisp
COOKING:
Combine Ground Beef, beer, and Worcestershire in medium bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2-inch thick patties.
Place patties in center of grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, uncovered, 8 to 10 minutes (over medium heat on preheated gas grill, 7 to 9 minutes) until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F, turning occasionally. About 2 minutes before burgers are done, place buns, cut-side down, on grid. Grill until lightly toasted. During last minute of grilling, top each burger with cheese.
Cook's Tip: Cooking times are for fresh or thoroughly thawed ground beef. Ground beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F. Color is not a reliable indicator of ground beef doneness.
Place burgers on bottom of buns; top with bacon slices. Close sandwiches.
Cook's Tip: Reduced-sodium or regular bacon may be substituted for Maplewood-smoked bacon.
SAFE HANDLING TIPS:
Wash hands with soap and water before cooking and always after touching raw meat.
Separate raw meat from other foods.
Wash all cutting boards, utensils, and dishes after touching raw meat.
Do not reuse marinades used on raw foods.
Wash all produce prior to use.
Cook beef until temperature reaches 145°F for medium rare steaks and roasts 160°F for ground beef.
Refrigerate food promptly.
