Oklahoma Pork Council to Host Pre-Memorial Day Blood Drive to Save Lives

Mon, 23 May 2022 12:05:55 CDT

Oklahoma Pork Council to Host Pre-Memorial Day Blood Drive to Save Lives For the past 16 years, the Oklahoma Pork Council and the Oklahoma Blood Institute have teamed up for the annual Pre-Memorial Day Blood Drive. This year's event will be held May 26-27, 2022.
"The Oklahoma Blood Institute needs 1,200 blood donors each day to meet the needs of patients in our local hospitals and across Oklahoma," said Kylee Deniz, Oklahoma Pork Council Executive Director. "A holiday weekend, like Memorial Day, puts a real strain on the available blood supply. Oklahoma Pork encourages individuals with all blood types to help boost Oklahoma's blood supply for this Memorial Day weekend. Your donation will make a difference in someone's life."
Donors can give blood at any Oklahoma Blood Institute Donation Center with locations in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros, and across the state including Edmond, North OKC, Central OKC, Tulsa, Ada, Ardmore, Enid, Lawton and Norman. Mobile blood donation units will be in Guymon on Thursday, May 26 and in El Reno on Friday, May 27.
If you live near one of these cities and want to save lives by donating blood, please sign up to give at www.obi.org In appreciation for giving blood, donors will receive a free pork meal, "Because Bacon" t-shirt, and admission to an OKC attraction of their choice this summer.
Additionally, Oklahoma pork producers are stepping up in a big way during the Pre-Memorial Day Blood Drive by offering hundreds of free grab-n-go pork lunches to community members of this year's mobile donation units. Lunch will be served at the two mobile donation sites beginning at 11:30 a.m., and will be first come, first served. Specific details include:
· GUYMON - Thursday, May 26 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County (520 Medical Drive, Guymon)
· EL RENO - Friday, May 27 at the Public Safety Center (2707 Faith Avenue, El Reno)
