Good to Excellent Rated Oklahoma Corn and Soybean Conditions Drop 10 Points in One Week

Hot, dry conditions in parts of the country eroded the national corn and soybean condition ratings last week as shown in the USDA NASS weekly Crop Progress Report. As the dry weather persists, the forage in many states is suffering, with Texas exhibiting the bulk of the dry conditions with good to excellent range and pasture conditions rated at 1 percent.
Nationwide Corn:
Corn silking for the U.S. reached 90 percent, down 4 percentage points from last year and down 3 points from the average. Corn dough reached 45 percent, down 8 points from last year and down 4 points from the average. Corn dented reached 6 percent, down 1 point from the previous year and down 3 points from the average.
Corn conditions for the 18 states reported is rated 58 percent good to excellent, 26 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor.
Nationwide Soybeans:
Soybeans blooming for the U.S. reached 89 percent, down 1 percentage point from last year and up 1 point from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 61 percent, down 9 points from last year and down 5 points from the average.
Soybean conditions for the 18 states reported rated 59 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 11 percent poor to very poor.
Nationwide Cotton:
Cotton squaring for the U.S. reached 95 percent, up 8 percentage points from last year and up 2 points from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 69 percent, up 8 percentage points from last year and up 5 points from the average. Cotton bolls opening reached 9 percent, up 4 percentage points from last year and even with the average.
Cotton conditions for the 15 states reported is rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor.

Oklahoma:
Corn silk reached 95 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Corn dough reached 45 percent, up 7 points from the previous year but down 2 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor.
Soybeans blooming reached 60 percent, up 7 points from the previous year and up 8 points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 25 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Soybean conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 33 percent poor to very poor.
Cotton squaring reached 95 percent, up 10 points from the previous year and up 3 points from normal. Cotton setting bolls reached 48 percent, up 8 points from the previous year but unchanged from normal. Cotton conditions rated 5 percent good to excellent, 48 percent fair and 47 percent poor to very poor.
Sorghum headed reached 50 percent, up 6 points from the previous year but down 3 points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 20 percent, up 8 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Sorghum conditions rated 35 percent good to excellent, 52 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor.
Peanuts pegging reached 70 percent, up 5 points from the previous year but down 1 point from normal. Peanut conditions rated 85 percent good to excellent and 15 percent fair.
Hay:
In the Central district, hay harvest is approximately half of normal and quality is down. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 75 percent complete, up 16 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 6 percent. The second cutting of other hay reached 65 percent, up 17 points from the previous year and up 13 points from normal. The third cutting of other hay reached 5 percent.
Pasture, Range, and Livestock:
Pasture and range conditions rated 18 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 50 percent poor to very poor. Livestock conditions rated 39 percent good to excellent, 46 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor.

Kansas:
Corn silking reached 83 percent, down 9 percentage points from last year and the average. Dough reached 49 percent, down 11 points from last year and down 9 points from the average. Corn dented reached 6 percent, down 5 percentage points from last year and down 11 points from the average. Corn conditions rated 30 percent good to excellent, 32 percent, and 38 percent poor to very poor.
Cotton squaring reached 100 percent, up 13 percent from last year and up 15 points from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 78 percent, up 16 percent and up 38 percent from the average. Cotton bolls opening reached 2 percent, down 1 percent from last year and up one percent from the average. Cotton conditions were rated 32 percent good to excellent, 48 percent fair, and 20 percent poor to very poor.
Soybeans blooming reached 76 percent, down 3 percentage points from last year and down 4 points from the average. Soybeans setting pods reached 43 percent, down 5 percentage points from last year and down 9 points from the average. Soybean conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 24 percent poor to very poor.
Sorghum headed reached 4 percent, down 4 percentage points from last year and down 2 points from the average. Sorghum conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 35 percent poor to very poor.
Pasture and Range:
Pasture and Range conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 29 percent fair and 54 percent poor to very poor.

Corn dough reached 73 percent, down 9 percentage points from last year and down 6 points from the average. Corn dented reached 64 percent, even with last year and down 1 percentage point from the average. Corn conditions rated 17 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 50 percent poor to very poor.
Cotton squaring reached 94 percent, up 12 percentage points from last year and up 3 points from the average. Cotton setting bolls reached 63 percent, up 10 percentage points from last year and up 8 points from the average. Cotton bolls opening reached 14 percent, up 10 percentage points from last year and up 1 point from the average. Cotton conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor.
Peanuts pegging reached 71 percent, up 2 percentage points from last year and even with the average. Peanut conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 50 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor.
Sorghum headed reached 89 percent, up 1 percentage point from last year and up 3 points from the average. Sorghum coloring reached 70 percent, up 2 percentage points from last year and even with the average. Sorghum conditions rated 16 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 51 percent poor to very poor.
Range and Pasture:
Range and pasture conditions rated 1 percent good to excellent, 9 percent fair and 90 percent poor to very poor.
