TCFA Convention Headed to Frisco, Texas Next Week

Thu, 20 Oct 2022 14:53:37 CDT

TCFA Convention Headed to Frisco, Texas Next Week Associate Farm Editor, Reagan Calk, got the chance to visit with the Brady Miller, the Texas Cattle Feeders Association Director of Market, Membership, and Education about the upcoming Annual TCFA Convention which will be held in Frisco, Texas on October 23-25.

“We are going to be in Frisco, Texas this year,” Miller said. “Our convention moves around from year to year.”

Last year’s convention, Miller said, was in Oklahoma City.

“Our convention kicks off Sunday evening with what we call a welcome reception,” Miller said. “That starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m.”

Monday morning will kick off with a general session, Miller said, and the entire day will feature exceptional speakers.

“We will start off by hearing a chairman speech from our chairman of the board,” Miller said. “He has been there for the last year. He is outgoing; we will replace him during this event, but Kevin Buse will be giving his chairman’s speech starting off first thing Monday morning and then we dive into Colin Woodall with NCBA (National Cattlemen’s Beef Association).”

Miller said Woodall will give an update from NCBA on issues being worked on in Washington D.C. and throughout the country.

“Then we will dive right into Dan Halstrom,” Miller said. “He is with the USMEF (United States Meat Export Federation) and he is going to be talking exports. He will give us about a 40-to-45-minute update on exports. As an industry, we all know that about 15 percent of our product goes abroad, and it is a very important 15 percent and so he will be giving us a brief update on exports and what to expect.”

With issues abroad in places such China, Taiwan and Ukraine causing headwinds for the beef industry, Miller said the United States continues to produce a safe, high-quality product.

“We will finish that general session in the morning, and we will come back that afternoon and we get to have some fun speakers in Dr. Kevin Elko and Emmitt Smith,” Miller said.

Miller said he feels that cattle feeders will enjoy listening to a hall of fame football player, because they share the same mindset and mental toughness.

“We feel like that is what it takes for us to be able to feed a super good product in a tough industry,” Miller said.

This year’s convention, Miller said, is looking to be one of the larger ones the TCFA has put on.

“We expect a lot of fun,” Miller said. “Our guys will come and learn a lot, but they will also come and enjoy having time to visit with one another, make those connections and be able to move forward.”

Pre-registration is set to close on October 20, Miller said, but visitors who have not registered beforehand are encouraged to register at the event.

Although the room block for the event is full, Miller said there are plenty of great hotel options available walking distance from the event.
