Erin Borror with USMEF Talks 2020 Beef Export Prospects with Ron Hays
Sat, 04 Jan 2020 10:10:08 CSTOur first Ag Perspectives Podcast for 2020 features a conversation with the US Meat Export Federation Economist Erin Borror. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talks about 2020 with Borror as it relates primarily to US Beef Exports.
Two agreements took effect as of January first- the partial US-Japan Agreement and the exclusively US Beef Tariff Rate Quota established by the EU. Borror looks at how those deals will improve US Beef access in 2020- and she also talks about the potential a Phase One Trade Deal with China could have for US Beef- acknowledging that we are still in the dark on the details of what may be signed January 15th by President Trump and high ranking Chinese officials that he has said will be on hand in Washington. Borror says currently the US has about 1% of the Chinese import market that was worth over seven billion dollars in 2019- and opening up of that market for US Beef could be huge.
Borror also talked about the continuing success story of US Beef into South Korea- as she expects further gains in the new year for US beef cattle producers in this dynamic market.
Overall, Borror says the USMEF is looking at all of the end of 2019 trade developments closely and adjusting upward potential US Beef export numbers for the new year because of these most recent efforts of the US Trade Ambassador's office- as well as the USMEF staff on the ground around the world as they work to take advantage of the government to govenrment efforts.
