Ron Hays and Bill Bullard Have a Wide Ranging Conversation About His View of the Beef Cattle Business

Sat, 20 Oct 2018 14:06:41 CDT

A small group of cattle producers were a part of the first convention of the Oklahoma Independent Stockgrowers Association. Among the speakers they were heard from was the long time top executive of R-Calf USA, Bill Bullard.

Before he addressed the group, Bullard sat down with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays and talked about a variety of subjects, starting with his response to media reports that his group has ties to HSUS. Bullard told Hays that those claims are totally inaccurate and the closest thing to any ties between the two groups are lawyers retained by R-Calf that have worked cases for HSUS. He adds that R-Calf does work on some issues in tandem with the Organization for Competitive Markets- and OCM has had some joint efforts with HSUS- but that on those areas- R-Calf has stayed clear and that his members have directed the organization not have dealings with any animal rights activists groups.

Hays and Bullard also discuss R-Calf's desire to reinstate a Mandatory COOL, their lawsuit in Montana against the State Beef Council and their efforts to expand the reach of that case to fourteen other State Beef Councils and his thoughts on cattlemen being involved with the US Roundtable for Sustainable beef.
