John Butler of the Beef Marketing Group Dialogues with Frank Sesno About Chipolte at Ag Issues Forum
Fri, 27 Feb 2015 06:11:16 CSTThere was discussion about the Mexican restaurant chain, Chipolte Mexican Grill, at the 10th Annual Ag Issues Forum in Phoenix earlier this week, as John Butler of the Beef Marketing group responded to Forum Moderator Frank Sesno about the restaurant chain. Butler is the CEO of the marketing cooperative that has as its members cattle operations in Kansas and Nebraska.
In response to Sesno, Butler called Chipolte "dangerous" because of their willingness to change specifications of what they are buying from the beef pipeline when supplies of a tighter specification is not available. In addition, Butler called out the company for their marketing practice where they appear to be calling the beef they use "better than" beef sold that does not have the attributes they champion. On their website and Facebook pages- they call their ingredients "superior."
Chipolte has recently been under fire in the general media for the calorie count of their menu- click here for one such article from Bloomberg.
