Colin Woodall Talks Fake Meat, Trade, ELDs and More with Ron Hays at 2019 Cattle Industry Convention in New OrleansTue, 29 Jan 2019 22:34:52
As the 2019 Cattle Industry Convention and Trade Show gets rolling by the mighty Mississippi River here in New Orleans- Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays sat down Tuesday afternoon and talked with Colin Woodall, who is the Senior Vice President that heads up the Washington office of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. Ron and Colin talked about a lenghty list of issues that will be discussed this week by cattle producers that come from all across the US and represent all of the segments of the business.
Woodall talked with Hays about the regulation of Fake Meat, Trade Issues including the talks this week between the US and China, ELDs and the Hours of Service issue in hauling livestock, implementation of the 2018 Farm Law, the public comment period coming on WOTUS 2.0, the soon to be front burner issue of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines and a look at how Secretary Sonny Perdue finally got some help coming through the front door of USDA by naming three nominees for Senior USDA posts blocked from final confirmation in 2018 as Deputy Secretaries while they wait for a more senior post within the department.
Woodall complemented Secretary Perdue for getting Dr. Mindy Brashears of Texas Tech and a pair of other Under Secretary nominees finally on board- as Perdue Monday named Mindy Brashears as Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety, Naomi Earp as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, and Scott Hutchins as Deputy Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics.
“Deputy” positions do not require Senate confirmation so Perdue will be able to put Brashears, Earp, and Hutchins on the payroll immediately.
The three previously had been nominated by President Donald Trump for three of the top 12 jobs reporting to Secretary Perdue. Those three spots require Senate confirmation.
The president has resubmitted the nominations for the higher ranking positionsto the Senate in the 116th Congress. In the meantime, Perdue has three new deputies in town. Woodall is delighted.
