US Patents Granted for Nitrogen-Fixing Technology for Envita

US Patents Granted for Nitrogen-Fixing Technology for Envita Extends Azotic's IP protection for technology to help corn and other crops fix nitrogen all season long

Azotic Technologies, the UK-based global ag-tech company, announces that the US Patent and Trademark Office has just granted Azotic two significant patents. The first patent being, US patent titled: "Novel Microorganisms and Their Use in Agriculture". The second patent being, US patent titled: "Plant Inoculation Method". Both patents relate to Azotic's natural nitrogen fixing technology N-Fix® marketed in North America under the brand name Envita™ which is derived from a naturally occurring food grade bacterium Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd).

This follows the issuance of several patents earlier this year in Europe and other territories.

The granted patents extend Azotic's intellectual property protection to strains of the bacterium Gd that are characterised by unique sequences associated with the ability to colonise plant cells intracellularly, and to plant inoculation methods and formulations that are effective to apply nitrogen-fixing endophytes to a wide variety of crops.

A naturally-occurring, food-grade microbe, Envita provides corn and other crops with the ability to fix their own nitrogen from the air and has proven success with farmers throughout the US. Envita is the only N-fixing bacteria that works from within the plant cell to fix N all season long when and where the plant needs it most. Growers can choose to use Envita with their regular fertility program for a yield boost or deliver same yields using less nitrogen.

Peter Blezard, CEO of Azotic Technologies, said: "These patents add to the global strength of our IP, protect Azotic's product development pipeline, and fuel continued investment around the world. This will accelerate the growth of the Envita product line giving US farmers nitrogen solutions where they no longer need to choose between sustainability and productivity."
