Riley Pagett On His Quest to be a National Officer of FFA
Sat, 17 Oct 2009 22:42:54 CDT
The next four days are do or die for the national officer candidates for the 2009-2010 National Officer Team of the FFA organization. One of those that will be pulling out all the stops from Sunday through Wednesday is Riley Pagett, last year's Northwest District Vice President for Oklahoma FFA. Riley calls Woodward home, although he is busy this fall as a freshman at Oklahoma State University. Our picture here shows Riley with his fellow state officers last year in Indianapolis at the National Convention- he is right in the middle of photo- three folks on either side of him.
We talked with Riley about the process of being selected as the National Officer Candidate that would represent Oklahoma this week- and what he will be facing over the next few days. By Wednesday morning, the initial group of candidates will be trimmed down to about a dozen or so, with the final six that will travel 300 days over the next year as FFA's national ambassadors will be named on Saturday afternoon as the final piece of business for the 2009 National Convention.
Oklahoman Leila Hajii of Guthrie has been on this magic ride over the last year- and she will wrap up her year long adventure this week in Indianapolis. Her farewell speech will be Friday morning at the Fourth Convention Session.
We talked with Riley this past week as he helped with several of the Oklahoma contestants that will be speaking and representing the state at the national meeting in various events. He tells us that he will be pleased with the outcome, no matter what, but you could tell he would really be thrilled and honored to follow Leila as a National Officer this coming year.
You can listen to our conversation with Riley by clicking on the Listen Bar below. We hope that we will be able to follow up with him the second half of this week as one of those FFA members who made the cut and have the chance to hear their name called in Indy Saturday afternoon.
