2016 Oklahoma Star Farmer- Brock Boeckman of the Kingfisher FFA

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:26:20 CDT

2016 Oklahoma Star Farmer- Brock Boeckman of the Kingfisher FFA Kingfisher FFA member Brock Boeckman is actively involved in his supervised agricultural experience through managing three enterprises: a wheat operation, cow/calf operation and a stocker steer operation. Boeckman's devotion to agriculture led to his selection as a recipient for one of Oklahoma FFA's highest honors: the 2016 State Star Farmer. His supervised agricultural experience was recognized as the top agricultural production program among the 836 FFA members who received the State FFA Degree during the 90th State FFA Convention on April 27.

Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays produced the video shown on Wednesday afternoon that introduced the Star Farmer to the General Session audience. You can watch the video and learn more about Boeckman's winning SAE by clicking on the PLAY button in the video box below.

Boeckman said accurate record keeping is important when managing his three enterprises. "Record keeping is important in any operation, especially farming," Boeckman said. "I keep accurate records of all of my financial transactions; this way I will be able to look back on my expenses or income if needed."

Boeckman said he takes pride in his SAE and enjoys the work that goes into it. "Farming has been one if my top priorities since I have been in high school," Boeckman said. "I enjoy it more than anything in the world. I have been told to pick a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life."

Boeckman also started growing crabgrass hay during non-growing season, he said. "I can take from my wheat field in the non-growing season, which benefits me in my cow/calf and stocker operation," Boeckman said. "A clean and fertilized crabgrass hay will provide quality hay."

In addition to farming and raising cattle, Boeckman is active in his high school's FFA program. He gives speeches, participates in quiz bowl competitions as well as different career development events."FFA is an organization I do not regret joining," Boeckman said. "The many places I have visited, the people I have met and the success I have encountered are because of the FFA organization. I highly advise any young teenagers to join FFA."

The 18-year-old Kingfisher FFA member is the son of Bart and Dee-Dee Boeckman. His agricultural education instructors and FFA advisers are Ryan and Lori Burns.

The State Star Farmer of Oklahoma will receive a cash award of $1,500 and the prestigious Governor's Trophy, which is sponsored on the state level by Davis Farms, Oklahoma Ag Credit and the Sirloin Club of Oklahoma. The national sponsors of the award are CNH Industrial Capital and DuPont Co.
