John Deere, National FFA Foundation's Longest Running Sponsor, Creates New Endowment- Stationed by the PlowFri, 30 Oct 2015 13:06:43 CDT
At the Chairman’s Reception and Dinner on Wednesday evening in Louisville, John Deere announced the creation of an endowment committed to developing the next generation of leaders- even as those future leaders were gathering for the 88th National Convention of the National FFA.
“Stationed by the Plow, seems a fitting name for this endowment,” said Cory Reed, chairman of this year’s National FFA Sponsors’ Board and senior vice president of the Intelligent Solutions Group at John Deere. “Just as a plow is pulled to prepare the soil for planting so must leaders of today work to prepare the leaders of tomorrow so that they are ready to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.”
John Deere has been a proud sponsor of FFA and the National FFA Foundation’s longest-running sponsor for 72 years.
In addition to an initial $10,000 contribution, John Deere announced they will donate $500 for every person in attendance at the evening’s dinner. Reed also asked attendees to “amplify” that contribution with a matched pledge of their own.
Holding true to their announcement, John Deere donated $500 for every person in attendance to equal $70,000. In addition, $22,700 was raised from attendees and matched by Deere to $45,500. In total, $115,400 was raised to support the Stationed by the Plow Endowment.
Glenn Stith, chair of the Individual Giving Council, also added that strong commitments made by all four FFA boards has led to $442,538 available in the Leadership Matching Challenge with $170,580 in donations matched since 2012.
“As you thoughtfully consider this offer, I encourage you to think of a leader who has had an impact on your life,” said Reed. “I’m sure you’ll agree how critically important it is that we do all we can to develop future leaders who will develop new strategies and technologies in creating and sustaining a safe, abundant and affordable food supply.”
