Adrienne Blakey of Stillwater Speaks in Final Four of National Extemporaneous Speech Contest- Having Fun Along the Way

Fri, 21 Oct 2016 05:15:44 CDT

Adrienne Blakey of Stillwater Speaks in Final Four of National Extemporaneous Speech Contest- Having Fun Along the Way For the second year in a tow, Adrienne Blakey of Stillwater FFA is representing Oklahoma in a national speech contest. In 2015, she was the Prepared Public Speaking winner at the state convention, qualifying her to represent Oklahoma in Louisville- she fell short of her goal last year of making it to the Final Four and having a chance to win the National Championship. Here in 2016, Blakey is back- this time representing Oklahoma in the National Extemporaneous Speech Contest- and she tells Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays that she is having more fun this year than she did in 2015.

Blakey says she felt a lot of pressure in 2015 in the Prepared speech contest- but not so in 2016 in Extemp. She says that she is having a lot of fun- and that to her, the thrill is that before you draw your topic to speak on- you have no idea of what you are going to talk about- you get your topic and you have thirty minutes to prepare and see what you can come up with.

The thrill has continued from winning the state title back in April to coming to Indianapolis and winning her first and second rounds- placing her on Thursday on the National Finals Stage as one of the Final Four speakers in the 2016 event. She learrns how well she did, according to the judges, this evening when the National Champion Speech winners in Prepared, Extemp and Creed will be named.

As she waits for word that will come Friday night in Indy- Ron Hays talked with her about the contest- her speech topics she drew and how FFA has impacted her life- click on the LISTEN BAR below to hear their conversation.
