Introducing Austin Seright of Weatherford FFA Chapter, Oklahoma's SW District Star in Ag Placement

Thu, 06 Apr 2017 12:37:27 CDT

Introducing Austin Seright of Weatherford FFA Chapter, Oklahoma's SW District Star in Ag Placement During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report will be spotlighting the twenty District Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five districts in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. We are beginning our series of profiles of the District Stars with the five district winners in Ag Placement. The top individuals in this category have been employed within the agricultural community- and are judged on the success of their work program. The member's placement experience can include paid labor hours or directed laboratory unpaid labor hours.

We bring you today the fourth competitor for the State Star in Ag Placement, Weatherford FFA's Austin Seright, representing the Southwest District. Throughout his high school career, Seright has spent his summers employed with Mullin's Mowing, a lawn and garden care company, servicing 150 yards a week.

Over the course of the last four summers, Seright has polished his customer service skills as learned the value of a good work ethic.

"Really customer satisfaction; talking to customers - that was the hardest thing for me and now it's nothing for me to talk to customers," Seright said, adding too that the work itself is no easy task. "It takes us a full week. We work six days out of the week and it's full days, every day."

Even on his day off, Seright is still hard at work, tending to the regular maintenance of the machines he is responsible for.

"Since we don't work on Sundays, me and the boss man, we take care of all the equipment," he said.

Seright serves this year as his Chapter Secretary and upon graduation plans to attend OSU-OKC to pursue a degree in landscape architecture and design with the hopes of starting his own lawn care service in his hometown.
