Riley Pagett Returns to Oklahoma State Convention as National FFA President
Thu, 05 May 2011 3:33:30 CDT
The magic ride as the President of the National FFA organization has reached the half way mark for Oklahoma FFA member Riley Pagett. Pagett, a member of the Woodward FFA Chapter, was selected as the 8th National President who has come out of the state as the leader of the national officer team for a year. Pagett says it has been almost non stop- but that he has landed in his home state for just over a week, which is a very long break from the constant travel that makes up the life of a National Officer for the organization.
Each year, the National FFA Organization elects a six-member student officer team. These members travel more than 300 days out of the year putting on leadership workshops, doing business & industry visits and meeting FFA members across the country.
We talked with Pagett about the ride thus far, about the job of being a national spokesperson for this huge national youth organization. Riley says that his national team have joined with one heart in working on a mission statement during their 12 months together as national officers. That mission statement is "To promote a diverse perspective among members, teachers, students and careers associated with the national FFA organization."
We also discussed how Riley has approached the idea of promoting ag education as highly valuable curriculum that can provide benefits equal to or even superior to core classes in the High Schools of today. And we talked about what FFA has done for him- and what he will carry away from the organization when his career winds down this coming October in Indianapolis.
