Oklahoma's National Officer Candidate Laila Hajii is Ready for the Announcement
Fri, 24 Oct 2008 13:26:05 CDT
As we write this, we will know in a little more than 24 hours which six young people will make up the 2008-2009 National Officer Team of the FFA Organization- that will be the final item of business for this year's convention which has attracted some 50,000 into downtown Indianapolis. We talked here midday Friday with one of the 19 young people here at the convention that especially care about which names are called- Laila Hajii, who calls the Guthrie, Oklahoma FFA chapter home, even though she is attending Texas Tech University as she studies Ag Education. And, I even got to be in the picture with Laila- just to prove I was actually here!
Laila represented Oklahoma in 2007 as a National Officer Candidate but was not chosen. She regrouped, competed to be Oklahoma's Candidate again in 2008 and has been getting ready for this week for the past several months.
I have interviewed Laila multiple times during her FFA career, judged her in speaking competition and it is amazing how she has matured without losing her enthusiasm for the FFA.
Backstage here at Conseco Fieldhouse, we talked with Laila again as she waits on word from the National Officer Nominating Committee. She tells us that she has learned more about herself and what drives her over the last twelve months- and she tried to communicate that to the nine person committee.
We have our conversation captured here and you can listen to her by clicking on the Listen Bar. We will post on our website news on the National Officer team Saturday evening- and we are rooting for Laila to be on that list.
