Tyler Schafer of Lomega Wins National Dairy Production Proficiency AwardFri, 24 Oct 2008 22:13:37 CDT
Tyler Schafer of Lomega FFA is the winner of the Dairy Production Proficiency Award at the 81st Annual National Convention of the FFA in Indianapolis. He is one of six Oklahoma FFA members that are bringing home a National Proficiency victory from the 2008 event.
Driven by a desire to make his father proud of him, Tyler Schafer began showing dairy heifers at the age of nine. He was instantly hooked on the competitive atmosphere of the show ring and year after year could not wait to exhibit his animals at the fair. When he began his S-A-E, the Lomega FFA member was already knowledgeable in the dairy industry. With the motivation of winning top awards, Schafer breeds for superior genetics and high milk production, making his heifers very marketable to consumers in the industry. In 2007, he sold animals to producers in New Mexico, Oklahoma, California and Wisconsin.
Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Tyler right after the announcement was made- click on the listen bar below to hear their conversation.
