Amber Pocasset on Teeth Floating and Other Notes from Wednesday at National FFA Convention

Wed, 20 Oct 2010 17:00:12 CDT

Amber Pocasset on Teeth Floating and Other Notes from Wednesday at National FFA Convention Bits and Pieces from Wednesday at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The picture is Oklahoma FFA Advisor Jack Staats with the Amber Pocasset FFA Chapter- these members were getting ready for the Ag Issues Contest that they were a part of on Wednesday afternoon. They chose as the Ag Issue they would present in the competition the Teeth Floating debate of this past year in the state of Oklahoma- should Equine Dentists be able to continue to practice- or should this only be done by an accredited Veternarian?

There was GREAT news on the National Officer front, as Riley Paget of Woodward FFA made the one and only cut in the National Officer Selection process. After a couple of days of interviews, tests and other interactions- the field is cut by fifty percent in each of the regions. In the case of the Central Region- there were nine candidates this year- so they cut it down to five. The next time that Riley will know if he is "in" or "out" is Saturday afternoon when they name the actual new National Officer team for 2010-2011. Good luck Riley!!!

Both Kingfisher ladies- Tara Newton and Ashton Mese, cruised through their opening round of the National Prepared Public Speech and National Extemperaneous Speech Contest on Wedensday morning. They both spoke well on Wednesday afternoon, and if they survived this second round- that would mean they have made the National Final Four as a Finalist in their respective contest. We will learn their fate this evening. Watch for a Tweet from us later on.

One note on the Extemp contest- it was a rather odd moment as the judges had a hard time doing their job once Ashton spoke and took questions. With eight judges, you would think you could fill five minutes of questions. Ashton took each question put to her- answered them well- but the judges finally ran out of questions a good thirty seconds before they ran out of time. I have never seen that happen at the national level before and it was truly odd.

We are looking forward to judging in the National Creed Contest on Thursday- we'll have more on that later on.

AND- we have some pictures from Wednesday- lots more to come over the next day or so- click here for our FLICK set of pictures that we will be adding to as we go at this 2010 National Convention.
