Friday Night in the Big Town- and Oklahoma FFA Stands Proud!

Sat, 23 Oct 2010 5:19:20 CDT

Friday Night in the Big Town- and Oklahoma FFA Stands Proud! It's Friday night in the Big Town- and what a day it has been for the Oklahoma FFA Association.

We have been tweeting all afternoon and evening- and here's a rundown of our tweets that sum up where we are after the announcement of the Profiency Awards this afternoon and three more BIG national awards handed out Friday evening in the 7th General Session of the Convention.

Our Tweet about the Prepared Public Speaking Award is especially exciting- "What a story! Tara Newton of Kingfisher Ok #FFA wins Prepared Public Speaking at #FFAconv10 2nd yr for Kingfisher to have Contest Nat Winner" In 2009- it was Mckenzie Walta winning the National Prepared Public Speaking Contest- and one year later, Kingfisher has the Oklahoma winner again- this time in the person of Tara Smith who gives us a strong presentation on Thursday morning- and duplicates the National Championship that was won a year earlier by a member of her chapter.

Then you add in word about the National Extemperaneous Speech Contest. "Ashton Mese of Kingfisher #FFA wins National Extemp Speech Contest at #FFAconv10 The topic she spoke on was Death Tax and Ag. Awesome!"

The third Oklahoman in a national speech contest also was in the Final Four- and Tyler Schnaithman of Garber wins third place.

The final National Award handed out Friday night in Indianapolis to an Oklahoman was to an Ag Ed Teacher- Alan Smith of the Cushing FFA. Alan was declared the National AgriScience Teacher of the Year by the National FFA Organization.

In addition, we got word that the Kingfisher FFA Chapter fielded the National Champion Livestock Judging Team here in Indianapolis.

During the 6th General Session on Friday afternoon, Oklahoma nabbed a total of EIGHT National Proficiency Awards- the most that any state was able to rack up. California and Illinois were each able to claim five National Proficiency awards apiece.

Here are the eight tweets that let you know the winners:

Emily McCullough of Lone Grove, Ok wins Vet Med Proficiency Award at #FFAconv10 OklahomaFFA. Number One!

William Maltbie of Burlington, Ok FFA wins the National Turf Grass Profiency Award at #FFAconv10 #oklahoma. Number Two!

Kassandra Pfieffer of Mulhalll Orlando, Ok #FFA Chapter wins National Diversified Livestck Placement Profiency Award #FFAconv10 Number 8!

Both Mulhall-Orlando FFA as well as Rongwood FFA scored with a pair of Proficiency Awards here in 2010- and Kass Pfieffer scored back to back National Proficiency Awards as she competed and won in 2009, as well as this year.

We have pictures of all of these eight winners- plus some other shots you may want to see as well- click here for our Flickr Set of pictures from the 2010 National FFA Convention
