Meet the National Proficiency Winner in Sheep Production- Madison McGolden of FairviewSat, 23 Oct 2010 7:06:55 CDT
For the second year in a row, Oklahoma had a dominating presence in the National Proficiency Awards that are selected and presented at the National FFA Convention each fall. In 2009, Oklahoma had the most National Finalists who competed in Indianapolis- and the most National Winners. That was repeated in 2010, as Oklahoma had a total of 22 National Finalists in the 47 Proficiency Award areas- and eight of those young men and ladies were declared the National winner in their category. California and Illinois were each able to claim five National Proficiency awards apiece, while Georgia, Nebraska and Wisconsin managed three apiece.
The 2010 National Proficiency Award in Sheep production is Madison McGolden of the Fairview FFA Chapter.
Agriculture has been part of Madison McGolden’s life from the very beginning. The Fairview FFA Chapter member in Oklahoma began her enterprise with twenty ewes, a number that has now grown to over 90. She has sold her stock across the country - from Nevada to Texas and even hosted her own camp to share sheep showing techniques. She holds five camps each summer, having taught about 160 students.
