Claremore, Oologah, Stillwater and Timberlake Chase National Honors in Premiere Chapter Competition This Week in Indy

Mon, 23 Oct 2017 15:28:18 CDT

Claremore, Oologah, Stillwater and Timberlake Chase National Honors in Premiere Chapter Competition This Week in Indy Four Oklahoma FFA Chapters are in the running for a National Championship in one of two categories in what is being called the National FFA Premiere Chapter Awards. The national FFA recognizes the top chapters with innovative activities in each of the three divisions: growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture. The top ten chapters in each division receive a National FFA Premier Chapter Award plaque. Of those top ten in each division, a top premier chapter will be chosen in each division. Only 3-star chapters are eligible for premier chapter awards.

Oklahoma has two of the ten finalists in the Growing Leaders and Building Communities categories. In the Building Communities category, the Stillwater and Timberlake FFA Chapters are both competing, while in the Growing Leaders category- two chapters that are only a few miles apart in northeastern Oklahoma are two of the ten national finalists. The Oologah and Claremore FFA Chapters both qualified and will do battle with one another and eight other chapters from around the country to be the national winner.

This past Wednesday in Stillwater, Radio Oklahoma Farm Director Ron Hays caught up with Claremore FFA Chapter President Ashley Koch, who explained their entry for the national competition- a highly successful Agri Fitness program. She told Hays "we realize that not many of our members were getting their proper exercise, so we started this program."

She adds that this was not just a program for the FFA members in Claremore- but also non ag education students. Koch says they have had success in telling agriculture's story as the members and their guests enjoy the time of exercise.

Claremore, Oologah, Stillwater and Timberlake are four of fourteen Oklahoma FFA Chapters who achieved the rating of three stars- the highest chapter rating given out annually by the National FFA. Another 22 chapters from Oklahoma qualified for judging at the national level- and all of them received a Two Star rating here in 2017.

You can see the complete list of the Chapters qualifying for national ratings and all of the hundreds of Oklahoma FFA members and Chapters competing and/or being recognized in Indianapolis at the 2017 National FFA Convention and Expo.
