Burlington FFA Member Seth Hankey Prepares for Star Award in Ag Placement

Fri, 14 Oct 2011 15:31:40 CDT

Burlington FFA Member Seth Hankey Prepares for Star Award in Ag Placement Burlington FFA member, Seth Hankey, has been selected as a finalist for one of the National FFA organization's top star awards. Hankey is a finalist in the American Star in Agricultural Placement for 2011. These star awards recognize students who have developed outstanding agricultural skill and competency through their career development programs.

Hankey says the Agricultural Placement award is when the FFA member works for a farmer that owns all the equipment and the member does the work for the farmer. The FFA member gets to use all of the equipment and use it to their benefit to help them out on the farm says Hankey.

Each star finalist receives $2,000 from the National FFA Foundation and earns the opportunity to participate in an international experience tour to Costa Rica. A panel of judges will interview the finalists and select one winner for each award at the upcoming National FFA Convention. Winners that are selected will receive an additional $2,000 award.

Hankey says through his work on his Agricultural Placement award he has learned and acquired a variety of skills. From moisture testing from bales to the different types of wheat to plant and when to plant them, Hankey says he learns something new everyday.
