Hays was honored during an onstage presentation at the 84th National FFA Convention, during the fourth general session that was held Friday, October 21st. He was nominated by the Oklahoma FFA Association.
Hays has enjoyed a career in farm broadcasting that dates back to 1974, spending almost all of his career in Oklahoma. In 1977 he was named Farm Director of Oklahoma Agrinet, where he served as an advocate for FFA and agriculture for 30 years. In 2006, Hays accepted a new challenge, becoming director of farm programming for the Radio Oklahoma Network.
Hays is involved with the production of the Oklahoma FFA Convention each year, in addition to attending national convention to report on the accomplishments of Oklahoma FFA members and chapters. Hays has been recognized by his peers as National Farm Broadcaster of the Year and is a member of the Oklahoma Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
In 2009 he was honored with the Oklahoma FFA VIP award, and he has received both state and American Honorary FFA degrees.
The VIP Citation recognizes the dedicated individuals who contribute to the FFA mission of premier leadership, personal growth and career success through their hard work and cooperation. Without such strong and outstanding commitment, FFA would not be able to help build strong character in its members, who in turn build strong families, communities and industries.
