Meet the 2011 National Proficiency Winner in Landscape Management- William Maltbie of Burlington

The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their Supervised Agricultural Experiences have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 47 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management. Each award area has two categories, placement and entrepreneurship.
Placement proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships, or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Entrepreneurship proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Proficiency awards are given out at the local, state and national levels. .
Here at the 2011 National FFA Convention, Oklahoma brought a total of 15 finalists to Indianapolis, good for a tie for fourth place in the number of proficiency finalists on a state by state basis. At the end of the Friday afternoon session, Oklahoma laid claim to three national Proficiency Awards.

William began with a total of eight landscape projects as he began his career and has now expanded them to a total 25 landscapes that he has responsibility for. His goal that he is working towards is to become an agricultural engineer.
