Meet the 2011 National Proficiency Winner in Small Animal Prodiuction- Tanner Milller of Mulhall-Orlando

Meet the 2011 National Proficiency Winner in Small Animal Prodiuction- Tanner Milller of Mulhall-Orlando  The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their Supervised Agricultural Experiences have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students can compete for awards in 47 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management. Each award area has two categories, placement and entrepreneurship.


Placement proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships, or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Entrepreneurship proficiency awards are given to those whose SAEs are related to ownership of an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization. Proficiency awards are given out at the local, state and national levels. .


Here at the 2011 National FFA Convention, Oklahoma brought a total of 15 finalists to Indianapolis, good for a tie for fourth place in the number of proficiencies on a state by state basis. At the end of the afternoon session, Oklahoma laid claim to three national Proficiency Awards.


Small Animal Production- Tanner Miller, Mulhall-Orlando FFA   


Tanner Miller of the Mulhall-Orlando FFA Chapter in Oklahoma decided, after much thought, that he wanted to raise a small breed of dog.   He settled on the Pembroke Welsh Corgi bred because of their low-maintenance, overall demeanor and popularity. Miller created facilities that would allow him to breed throughout the entire year and also learned some veterinary skills to save money.
