Meet Hannah Williams of the Elmore City/Pernell FFA Chapter, the Central Area Star in Ag Placement

Tue, 03 Apr 2018 16:13:20 CDT

Meet Hannah Williams of the Elmore City/Pernell FFA Chapter, the Central Area Star in Ag Placement During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agricultural Placement for 2018. One Star Finalists featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up May 1-2, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

Our coverage begins today with the Central Area Star in Agriculture Placement, Hannah Williams of the Elmore City/Pernell FFA Chapter. Williams began her project in 2014 as a floral assistant at Blue Daisy Flowers & Gifts located in Elmore City, Oklahoma.

"Since 2014, I've learned how to process flowers, how to tend to plants and try to grow the Blue Daisy into more of an up-to-date flower shop," Williams said. "I brought the Blue Daisy into social media - Twitter, Instagram, Facebook- It's been my job to really push the Blue Daisy into the 21st Century."

Not only has Williams helped the Blue Daisy improve the way it reaches out and markets to its customers, she has also modernized the way the business functions, implementing an electronic payment and inventory system. In addition, she has travelled the state to assist with weddings, floral events and has even presented at workshops educating children and adults, including ag teachers, on basic floral arrangement - which teachers have taken back to their classrooms to instruct their own students.

Williams says communication has played a significant role in her success at the Blue Daisy; a skill she has had to develop over time and says was improved through her time in FFA competing in many different Career Development Events such as public speaking contests.

"We're trying to keep (the floral) industry thriving," she said. "It is a smaller part of the agricultural industry, but it still packs a big punch in that yearly revenue for the ag industry."
