Meet Your 2018 Southeast Area Star in Ag Placement, Samantha Stuart of the Valliant FFA Chapter

Fri, 06 Apr 2018 11:37:48 CDT

Meet Your 2018 Southeast Area Star in Ag Placement, Samantha Stuart of the Valliant FFA Chapter During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we are spotlighting the five area stars in Ag Placement, who will compete for the State Star Award in Ag Placement during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up May 1-2, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

We end this week spotlighting the Southeast Area Star in Agriculture Placement, Samantha Stuart of the Valliant FFA Chapter. Employed with one of McCurtain County's dominant feed and farm supply stores, Stuart has gained valuable knowledge about the ag retail industry, customer service and business management - all skills she knows she will need later in life to be successful at a future career in corporate communications.

"I want to be a communications major, so doing this job has really taught me how to deal with customers. It's taught me patience, it's taught me communication and it's broadened by knowledge of animal science that I didn't have before," she said, explaining how her involvement with FFA and agricultural education has helped to reinforce that learning environment at her work. "Working in this line of business goes hand-in-hand with my horticulture class and animal science class. (FFA) has really given me those skills and knowledge to do my best at this job."

Since starting her job, Stuart has learned some of the basic principles of business accounting and how to use related software to manage the store's finances. She has also developed her skills as a sales person, familiarizing herself over time with the store's inventory and helping customers find the right product to meet their needs and then effectively closing the sale.

Upon graduation, Stuart plans to attend Northeastern State University.
