Introducing Your 2018 Northwest Area Star in AgriScience Colton McCracken of the Vici FFA Chapter

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 10:31:43 CDT

Introducing Your 2018 Northwest Area Star in AgriScience Colton McCracken of the Vici FFA Chapter During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we are spotlighting the five area stars in Agriscience, who will compete for the State Star Award in Agriscience during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up May 1-2, 2018 in Oklahoma City.

Today, we are spotlighting the Northwest Area Star in Agriscience, Colton McCracken of the Vici FFA Chapter. Colton's project, which tested the kinetic energy in a variety of arrows to determine which projectile would deliver the most force to its target, earned national attention when he competed two years ago at the National FFA Convention in Lousiville, Ken.

Colton's interest in archery stems from a lifelong passion for bow hunting deer. His project began to take shape once he became curious as to which arrow would be the most efficient in the field, based on its weight and potential velocity. His project took him all the way to his first National FFA Convention, where his efforts ultimately paid off.

"It was nice because it was the only time I ever got to go to the National Convention and so agriscience gave me that opportunity," he said. "It was a neat experience getting to meet a lot of new people and ended up winning National Gold, so I got what I went for."

Throughout his FFA career, Colton has participated in many activities outside of agriscience such as showing pigs, trap shooting and meats judging. Upon graduating high school, Colton plans to attend Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa to pursue a degree in pre-veterinary medicine.
