OK State FFA President Cole Eschete Says National Convention Brings Out the Best in FFA Members

Fri, 26 Oct 2018 13:10:29 CDT

OK State FFA President Cole Eschete Says National Convention Brings Out the Best in FFA Members During the 91st National FFA Convention this week in Indianapolis, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays caught up with Cole Eschete, Oklahoma State FFA President, to talk about this year's convention and the activities he has participated in as part of Oklahoma's official delegation. Listen to their complete conversation by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of the page.

This is the fourth time Eschete has attend the National FFA Convention, the second time as a State Officer and the first as State President leading the other members of his team - a totally different experience compared to any of his previous trips to Indianapolis, he says.

"Definitely a different dynamic from what I am used to," he said. "It's a very different, but very humbling thing that I'm doing."

As a state officers, Eschete and the rest of his team get to experience the National FFA Convention in a different way than regular members who travel to the meeting. Eschete and his team divide up among committees filled with other state officers from other states around the nation to discuss various policy changes and resolutions that have been developed over the past year, to tackle as an organization and come up with solutions or improvements to the programs and policies of the FFA. Eschete served on a committee this year that brought up some proposed changes to the way the FFA's American and State FFA Degrees are evaluated. He says the changes discussed would encourage more members to get involved and enable them to distinguish themselves within the organization.

Eschete says the National FFA Convention, though, is an experience every member should take part in at some point in their FFA careers if they have the opportunity to.

"My advice to a younger member thinking about or having the opportunity to come to National Convention, should," he said. "It is the coolest feeling. National Convention is probably the biggest opening for an FFA member to see what this organization is about and the way it really is at the top level."
