Oklahoma FFA Association Recognized as 2018 "State of The Year" for Stellar Performance in Indy

Tue, 06 Nov 2018 12:54:22 CST

Oklahoma FFA Association Recognized as 2018 Oklahoma ranked No. 1 this year overall, compared to all other state FFA associations in the nation in terms of the success of its FFA members at the 2018 National FFA Convention held this past month in Indianapolis. This top ranking brings to Oklahoma the honor and title of "State of The Year."

A statistical analysis of all state FFA associations determines this ranking based on each individual state's success in American Degrees, National Proficiency Awards, National Championship CDE and LDE Teams/Top 5 Team Winners, Agriscience Fair Winners/Top Five Placings, and National FFA Officers/Candidates.

This year in 2018, Oklahoma earned a total of 83.0 points out of the 100-point measuring device used to calculate scores. This is five points below last year's tie with California, both states earning 88.0 points that year in 2017. This is the second consecutive win as a top-ranking state for Oklahoma since it last earned the recognition in 2013. Historically, Oklahoma is ranked third on the list of "State of The Year" winners with an average of 81.0 points, trailing California (First) and Texas (Second).

This year, Oklahoma came in fifth place for American FFA Degree Production with 169 achievements. Oklahoma was third in the National FFA Proficiency Ranking with 21 Finalists and 4 National Winners. Oklahoma tied with Kentucky and Missouri for third place in the National FFA Contests Championship Ranking with 6 qualifiers in the Top 5 and 2 winners. In the National FFA Agriscience Fair Ranking, Oklahoma produced 13 Top 5 qualifies and 2 Winners, earning Oklahoma six place overall in that category. In addition, Oklahoma's National Officer Candidate Ridge Hughbanks was selected for National FFA Office, replacing Owasso's Piper Merritt as the Central District Vice President, earning Oklahoma another mark of distinction.
