Wed, 17 Apr 2019 10:44:56 CDT

Meet Your 2019 Northeast Area Star in Agribusiness, Macy Shoulders of the Sperry FFA Chapter During the month of April, the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and Oklahoma Farm Report is spotlighting the twenty Area Stars of Oklahoma FFA that are among the highest achievers in the organization. The stars come from the five areas in four categories- Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agriscience, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Production Agriculture. This week, we spotlight the five area stars in Agribusiness for 2019. One Star Finalist featured in the coming days from each of the categories, will be named the State Star Award Winner during the Oklahoma State FFA Convention coming up April 30 - May 1, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

This week, our coverage of the 2019 Oklahoma FFA Star Award Finalists continues with Northeast Area Star in Agribusiness Macy Shoulders of the Sperry FFA Chapter. Macy's enterprise is in hay baling. She first started at thirteen and since then has been raking and cutting hay in local fields.

"The biggest thing I've learned is time management," says Shoulders. "How to get things done, be on time, be professional. Through this business I've also learned the importance of responsibility and accountability."

People skills, setting fair prices, and working hard to do the job right has earned the respect and repeat business of her mostly older male employers.

"Typically to see a female in this environment, let alone a teenager, it's different."

Another important tool that keeps her business running smoothly is the preventative maintenance she does.

"Since I pay for my equipment, aside from the tractor, I am more inclined to take care of it."

Macy has been president of her chapter for two years now and does such as cattle grading and dairy judging.

"When I attended my first state convention - that got me interested. FFA has presented me with a lot of opportunities, mainly meeting new people."

Baling hay duties will be calling after graduation. She's also hoping to intern at the Tulsa State Fair helping take nominations and wants to finish her basics at Tulsa Community College. After TCC she plans to pursue her Agribusiness degree at OSU.
